“Look Homeward Angels” the story

The paper for these pieces is made by hand and cast on my own molds. Created with various paper bases such as cotton, hemp, recycled antique paper...each has been blended to provide different colors and textures. Creating the pulp is much like mixing paints, adding a bit of this and a bit of that to find something unique. There is an acid inhibitor added to give a long life to the finished product.

After the angels are cast and dried they are cut and attired in a variety of colors, patterns, and styles. This includes the “primitive” style, the realistic style (based on historical characters) and the Couture line, with Special attention to fashion details of the past. My research into the past gives each piece a moment in history and a unique personality.

Finishing off each piece involves finding the appropriate text to back them, and the perfect word to state who they are. These pages come from very old books that are no longer bound together properly. There are different time periods to match up with the each Angel’s genre. This is how the name of my business came to be. “Look Homeward, Angel” by Thomas Wolfe, who was born around the turn of the century was an inspiration to me in my youth. I believe that the words, “look homeward” are a key to searching within for the bliss that one finds in the miracle of being alive. My love of both literature and art are bound together in angels I create.

The final step after signing the numbered patch, is to seal it and place it into a cello bag, to keep it clean and ready to be inventoried.

As these are all numbered, collectable objects, each are recorded and photographed. I can accommodate special orders, but ask that the freedom of my own artistic talents be given the ability to work within your own ideas.
